Overview

As a Senior Linux Engineer, you will be responsible for day-to-day operational support, project execution, architecture / design, and maintenance of all Linux servers.

  

You will work closely with other senior members of the team along with, Windows, Network, Datacenter, Development, and Trading Applications Support personnel in a dynamic team-oriented environment.

 

Expectations of the position will encompass: an ability to carry out and lead team members on midsize projects, development of strong organizational knowledge, familiarity with principles and practices of technical area, becoming a resource for other technical areas and acting as a mentor to other team members.

 

This position is located in our Chicago HQ office but will also be responsible for systems in our Chicago, New York, Frankfurt and London data centers.

Responsibilities

  • Analysis, troubleshooting, and correction of customer and application issues
  • On-call support rotation
  • Server design and deployment
  • Participate on projects independently as well as with a team
  • Documentation of support tasks and software configurations
  • Implementation of reliable critical systems
  • Mentoring of junior members on the team
  • Automate operational tasks
  • Support satellite offices

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in dynamic financial services industry
  • Understanding of financial industry applications and environments preferred
  • Process oriented with ability to understand business priorities
  • BS or BA degree in computer science or related field preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Proficiency in Linux systems, preferably Red Hat/CentOS (RHCE a plus)
  • Experience or exposure to Red Hat Satellite a plus.
  • Proficiency in scripting / programming (Python, Ruby, Bash, Perl)
  • Solid communication skills, verbal and written
  • Ability to learn hands on and in class room setting
  • Team oriented
  • Understands networking concepts and troubleshooting steps
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Understands business processes such as change control
  • Versed in configuration management tools preferably Ansible, but exposure to any of the following a plus (Puppet/BCFG2/CFEngine)
  • Deep understanding of virtualization technologies
  • Deep understanding of heterogeneous environments
  • NAS and FC storage experience
  • Able to adapt to changing environment
  • Is able to understand when to follow and when to lead
